Pasture Update
September 2026
September is like starting all over again. New school year, new schedules to figure out to make sure everyone gets to the right place at the right time. The laid back feel of summer is about over and responsibilities are coming at us like a freight train.
But we still have to put together healthy meals that are reasonably priced.
We are here to help in the food department of your home, especially the core meats that you regularly use to build out a meal.
Retail Beef
The next order of grass finished beef is being processed as we speak, and will be in our freezers by September 18.
Lamb
We are introducing "Spring Lamb" to our offering line up. These are young lambs only 30-40 lbs hanging weight born in the Spring of this year. These are being sold as retail cuts: Leg, shoulder, racks, chops, ground, etc. This limited supply will be available starting September 11.
Turkey
We are currently taking orders for pasture raised turkey. They are already in the pasture, making lots of noise and growing nicely. To reserve your Thanksgiving turkey, send a $50 deposit to the farm or via venmo (@Twin-Brook). No, its not to early. We just received a deposit from a long standing customer the other day. She insists on being the first line.
So in one stop you can pick up a couple of steaks, eggs, chicken, and lamb.
Oh yes, the plums are great this year and are plentiful. Also in the farm store.
News and Views on Regenerative AG
Big Big news has been annocuned by USDA this week. The Department of Agriculture has been exploring several new policy changes that will directly impact US farmers and consumers. One of these new initivates is to remove 40 and 50 year old regulations that prohibit farmers and meat processors to butcher, package, and sell their own meat locally to their neighbors and other interested parties in their own community. Well, so what's wrong with that? I am glad you asked! NOTHING! The reason for the current prohibitions was originally based on the belief that the federal government is responsible to make sure our food is safe. Sounds good, but then what happen just two weeks ago when people became sick eating tainted lettice from California?
So, if this new initiative is not blocked by the big four meat packers and other special interests groups, then in the next couple of years we maybe able to process all of our beef (custom & retail cuts) free of big government intervention.
Several possible benefits from this new initiative include:
Lower prices for local consumers. Producers will have to market primarily to local customers in concert with local economic conditions.
A decline in the disappearance of small farms and ranches. A growing number of young families desire to live and grow a family on their own farms. Presently 4th and 5th generation farm families are being gobbled up by corporate farms.
Beef supplies will likely increase as more smaller farms start growing livestock once again supported by strong market demand.
Food safety and quality will improve as farmers, market to people they know and depend on for their business. If we fail you, our customers, then we well will be out of business next year. Safe and healthy food is more likely to come from your local farmer than a bureaucrat living thousands of miles away.
